12 Most Incredible Abandoned Vehicles

We're not inventors, but we imagine that the process of inventing something brand new isn't easy. A lot of thought, hard work, love, and money goes into creating something unique, and that means the end product has a value even if the idea never really catches on. We'd like to think that even failed inventions have a place in museums or on public display, but apparently, that isn't the case. If it were, we wouldn't be able to bring you this video full of incredible abandoned technology!

the EV1 was a success. The oil companies killed the idea as they realized they would loose too much money as they didn't need petrol or oil for lubrication. Profits over progress. Why else would the cars be recalled after production and all destroyed

The EV-1 was NOT "a failure". It was in fact very successful. Everyone who had one wanted to keep it. Fast, cool looking and very cheap to drive. But GM was ordered by the Fossil Fuel Industry to scrap all of them. It's good to see one still in existence. See "Who killed the Electric Car".

Even if you blow something into pieces, it still exists technically

I'm sorry to inform you. The ev1 was not a failure. It was a flying success. And the powers-that-be did not want electric car on the road. Go watch the documentary. Who killed the electric car? It's all about the ev1.

The EV-1 wasn't a failure; GM only produced the vehicle, in limited numbers, to meet California's new vehicle law (a specific percentage of vehicles sold in California would be electric / alternate fuel vehicles).

GM specifically built the vehicle to fail; they assumed that given its limited range (due to the low-end traction batteries GM used in the first EV1 model) its dismally long recharge time and mediocre speed, no one would want the vehicle.

That turned out to be incorrect, as they actually leased practically every EV1 they built (approximately 1100).

Eventually, they did a limited run of the EV1 model 2, which had improved batteries, greater range, and faster recharge.

That's the other catch; GM only leased the EV1. When, eventually, they managed to get California to overturn the vehicle law forcing them to build alt fuel vehicles, they promptly ended all the leases and demanded the return of all of the vehicles.

They then took every single complete EV1 and shredded them. Then they took a few EV1s and donated them to educational facilities and musuems, sans engines.

The people who leased EV1s very much wanted to keep their vehicles. GM didn't give them a choice.

The EV-1 was a success that the automotive industry had it destroyed. They were all leased so they could take them back. Imagine a lightweight vehicle that really didn't have many moving parts and those were smaller. No engine parts, small brakes, no oil consumption, etc. Bad for business. Like other replies say, watch the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car"

The McBarge is interesting... Some enterprising individual could, with a lot of work, turn it into a floating house. That was my thought process for it...

The fact that an EV1 was abandoned is amazing and even more, the fact that GM never found it and destroyed it !

"General Motors ARE a large and successful...." Combined with the Oldsmobile "Tornado" ranks the script writer as learning disabled.
