Republicans holding economy 'hostage', says Biden on US debt ceiling

Joe Biden has accused Republican lawmakers of 'holding the economy hostage'.

Speaking at New York’s Hudson Valley in an appeal to lift the country’s debt limit, Biden said: 'They’re literally, not figuratively, holding the economy hostage by threatening to default on our nation’s debt.' Biden added: 'There is no reason to put all this at risk, to threaten a recession, to … undermine America’s standing in the world.'
