Give non-root user ownership of storage mount on Proxmox node

In this video I show you how to change ownership of a SMB/CIFS mount (in my case a synology NAS Shared Folder) from root to a non-root (the prometheus user) so that prometheus could write its data to the shared folder on my synology nas.

I wanted to setup basic monitoring for my proxmox nodes with node exporter and prometheus and I wanted to prometheus to write to a folder on my synology nas. I added the shared folder as a new storage device in my Proxmox cluster, but because the mount folder was owned by root, the prometheus user couldn't write to it.

I know this hasn't gotten many views, but this solved a problem I struggled with for days. You can also set the gid in options as well, just spacing them with a comma (uid=1000, gid=1000).
