By-elections deliver caution for Conservatives and bad news for PPC

Four ridings held by-elections yesterday, in which the Conservatives and Liberals each held onto their two seats. Even so, the Conservatives had a tougher fight than usual to win the southwestern Ontario riding of Oxford, while the People's Party of Canada and its leader Maxime Bernier failed to live up to their 2021 performance in Portage–Lisgar in rural Manitoba. True North's Andrew Lawton breaks down the results and what they mean for the Conservatives and the PPC moving forward.

Also, Canada is reassessing its relationship with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank after a Canadian staffer from the bank resigned citing rampant Chinese Communist Party influence. Former finance minister Joe Oliver joins to discuss why Canada should have stayed out of the AIIB in the first place.

Crazy. If people would vote for Liberals this country is truly screwed.

Pitiful turnout. Spoiled Canadians. Democracy: you don't know what you've got til it's gone...

Bernier focused on the wrong points. But the fact people will still vote liberal despite all the corruption is disturbing.

If the Liberal & NDP parties had leadership reviews, Trudeau & Singh would be done

One would think the turn out at these by elections would be extremely high given the current state of affairs but alas the turn out was approximately 35%.
Obviously Canadians are apathetic.

Why in the world you'd vote Liberal at this point is beyond me. 🙄

How the hell can anyone be voting Liberal or NDP. That terrible road is obvious to anyone with open eyes. Give Pierre a chance!

I'm in central Alberta, it's been raining all day. No snow. That was in Jasper. The mountains get different weather then the prairies. Besides, a little summertime snowstorm helps keep the weak from moving here. Do you really think Alberta's tough as nails, horse riding, blue jeans wearing Danielle Smith worries about the weather. Alberta's weather helped to make her so feisty

Many cpc supporters support ppc's policies & especially protest party values but they see there is no benefit voting ppc as an organization to influence power in parl & can only hurt

I'm an Edmontonian and one of those PPC protest voters in the last election. O'tool? No. Just no. Since then I bought a membership to support Poilievre in the leadership race and come the next election I may acutally get off my rear end and volunteer to knock on doors.

Lol Bernier is going against CPC, which is bad politics in opinion and his wasting precious time not targeting Liberals/NDP.

The only thing I want from any Politicians like O'Toole is to see them all thrown in the Dustbin of History!

I hate to be a vote splitter. The conservative-reform tiff gave two unwarranted elections to the liberals back in the day. However, I had to vote PPC in 2021 due to this crazy stupid Otool fully changing his strips in every way in false hope of the GTA “big tent”. Hoping Pierre will not go down this losing road.

Bernier was angry at the direction of the conservative party… That’s why he formed PPC…That being said it was a different time and a different leader. Bernier has some decent ideas but PPC We’ll never grow enough with Bernier to be a legit contender. Some of the core members of PPC should really take a closer look at CPC and Pierre. Until this happens Trudeau and his coalition we’ll have a big grin on their faces because they know the CPC party is still fractured. It will take all Canadians which ever party to Unite in their votes to get rid of this tyrant/gong show and all its players. Canada is circling the drain wake up

Mad Max should put more effort into damaging Liberals and Democrats first. I'd rather the final score be between Conservatives and Reform.

They need to be more selective on their candidates, come on
