#443 The unimpressive Kryptonite Key Cable bicycle lock

Sometimes we get what we pay for, sometimes NOT..
While the cables are the weak point on most of these bicycle locks, this one also sports a very weak lock. I would be hard pressed to recommend this one for use on anything.
TIP- Always use more than one lock on a bicycle and NEVER leave it unattended for long periods of time.

I was using a cable lock as a kid. My bike was a cheap bike so it was good enough. I remember at the time the I locks being used and how they typically had the tubular cores when I saw them in use. I always thought they looked strong. I also noticed at the time that a certain U lock was showing up on it's own quite regularly abandoned at bike racks. I now know as a educated adult on locks that what I noticed as a kid were cheap Chinese U locks still made today that were being opened with BIC pens. All I knew was that these locks always seem to be left at the bike racks by there owners and maybe something was wrong with the lock.

Well picked, so it seems the cable is not the weakest spot of this gift wrapping cord/bike lock 😁
Thanks for sharing ✌

Nicely done Big Al! You are right on with this one, weak core, but with a cable like that, does it matter? I guess it will keep the wind from blowing the bike off the rack 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks as always, take care buddy 👍 👍

That was great. The first thing that would happen to me is that I would lose the oddball key. Then my bike would be locked and I would need to walk home. So - with just a few tools, I can open the lock without the key and ride the bike home. Would a padlock work better?

If you've got a $20 bike, here's a $20 lock to match.

I like having a lot of tension wrenches so if I have to modify some it's no big deal cause most of us have a lot of them

Also the Hiplok D1000 is diamond grade and that comes at 275 bucks

With that flat bitting I was going to ask if you could rake it open but you opened it so fast with the pick I guess it's moot.

Pretty sad bike lock. For a cheap bike it would be ok but not much more than that. Take care Big Al. Go U.S.
