This movie is a prime example of how you don't need dialogue to carry the movie. The only words being 'I'm sorry' really highlighted the guilt that Brynn was carrying! Plus it also allowed the sound of this movie to really thrive! Spider Alien will be visiting my nightmares for sure... 👽🕷

Aliens realized they didn’t need to control her with the parasite, or replace her with the clone. She was so alienated and alone that she joined them willingly.

I think the aliens let her go because their goal was to take over society. However, they saw that Brynn was never included as part of society (she was also alien), so they had mercy and allowed her to experience that freedom.

She isn't asking for forgiveness from Maude at the end. She's forgiving her younger self. That's young Brynn at the table writing her first letter to her dead BFF. That's why she's so joyous at the dance. She's finally free of the weight of that guilt.

Another thing to note is that after the UFO throws Bryn back down to Earth, we see her looking up in awe at red, blue, and yellow lights (the colours that we’ve seen the UFO light-beams take on, throughout the film). In the epilogue, Bryn’s dress, the wardrobe of the dancers, as well as the set dressing at the town square dance, are all in the exact same colour palette - suggesting that she is fully living in the “Alien’s World” now, a world perfect for her - where she is finally accepted.

She KILLED this role. The first 15-20 minutes are intense. After that it wasn’t as horror like but it kept the foot on the gas for sure in terms of suspense. First movie I’ve watched in awhile that I’ve actually enjoyed!

I think the level of guilt she felt somehow made her immune to the aliens assimilation. She was therefore able to remove the creature from her throat, in the end the aliens just left her alone, as she posed little threat, and the folks in the town now all liked her, which she wanted all along.

Ultimately, it seems to me the aliens didn’t turn her because they realized she already was an alien in her own world. They had nothing to gain or lose with her.

Its interesting her reaction to her friends shove is the same reactions to fighting off the aliens. Even the first one she stabbed in the head without even realizing she had done it.

I was SO into the movie I just now realized there wasn't any dialog! I was pretty apprehensive about watching it because it looked like just another alien horror movie. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The way they aliens looked was JUST unique enough that I actually found them terrifying to look at. What an amazing movie!

I think the phrase "no one will save you but yourself" speaks volumes to her situation. That was not Maude at the end she was sitting with at the table with, that was her younger self, as she always wrote letters apologizing to her friend (& her younger self is writing "Dear Maude, " at that moment. She has always been sorry but never forgave herself in the process. She put so much pressure on herself and never released the burden of guilt not to mention having to be reminded of what she did every time she went into town. None of the people in her town understood how sorry she has always been but the Aliens felt what she felt when they tapped into her mind.

Their invasion is an indictment of the apathetic way we treat each other, but they empathized with Brynn's remorse and empathy. It's a spin on the 'last sane person in an insane world' trope. I just wish the script had Brynn NOT actually killing any aliens, because despite forgiveness being a central theme, I just couldn't buy them instantly forgiving her so easily.

I think they didn't kill her because she represents every aspect of humanity. At the beginning you can see she is indecisive but also able to make quick decisions. She lives alone she takes care of herself. She is in pain but she is also strong. She builds miniature houses. She likes art. She likes photography. She likes dancing, represents happiness. When she saw the grass damaged she tried to fix it. She fights for survival even killing her fake self. She comitted a crime. She apologised every day.
She is a leader.
Thats why they chose her to be in charge of her own little society.
I believe it's all experimental for the aliens.

Show. Don’t tell. This movie executed this to the highest level. It really subverted my expectations. I really thought a gun or another survivor would show up. I was genuinely afraid for the first time in a long time. Great movie!

One of the best alien horror movies I've ever seen. Kaitlyn performance was so darn good.

The most important aspect of the movie was her finally being able to forgive herself. That’s really what gave her the ability to move on.

Brynn felt a lot of guilt because of what she did when she was a child and after everyone was replaced by the parasite, she didn't have to live in guilty anymore since there was nobody left to judge her for what she did.

That movie was intense, they didn't lag or skimp on aliens. The variety of greys shown was amazing! Really scary ... A must see movie

Not sure how many caught this but when she is dancing towards the beginning of the film, she answers the phone just to put it down again. If you have subtitles on you’ll know the caller begins to say “You’re a fu-“ This is likely an angry townsperson, and the fact that she isn’t phased by it tells us that she has been dealing with this kinda thing her entire life.

Just a small detail, but a nice way to inform us of the situation early on.

She was alienated from the town. The greys realized this and realize she was just like them… an alien.
