Verse Genesis 25:29-34

The Birthright

This week, we learn more about Jacob and Esau as they grow up. Esau was the older brother because he was born first and that meant he would inherit all the land, animals, property and money. Jacob would not be given anything other than what he earned which made him not so happy. One day Esau had been out hunting but did not find anything to eat so he came home and saw Jacob making a big pot of stew. He wanted some and when Jacob said he would trade a bowl of stew for Esau’s right to inherit everything, Esau gave it all up in an instant just for the stew. Later, he wished he had not given it up. It made him realize he should have thought about the consequences of his actions and taken a minute to think things through before he answered.

Watch the bible story to see how it all plays out.
