I would've loved to be a Berserker, 2 axes and no armor, fighting my way into Valhalla.

Sword by far axes are nice. Especially the ones with the Sear end on the back. But a sword not only was effective, it was a symbol of importance and of their God of war Tyr who had a sword hand after a wolf bit it off.

Axe, shield, and bow & arrow.
most versatile weapon set.

The most common weapons were spear and axe, relatively cheap and quite effective. The iconic bearded axe was simple and very lethal. The swords were quite good and quite expensive. Thanks for mentioning that Vikings actually had bows.

Fighting someone in light or no armour I would think a sword was a vastly superior weapon. But if fighting someone shielded by heavy armour I would imagine an axe to be quite devastating as it deals both piercing and blunt force damage.

Absolutely fascinating video .Apart from bashing people's heads in at the weekend they were highly skilled craftsmen.Fantastic metalworkers and carpenters .Their boats flexed with the force of the waves so did not fall apart .Fascinating people.

I would really like to watch some of these being made I'm fascinated by the design on the axe head too. I think most people just take it for granted that our ancestors made weapons but don't appreciate how they were made and what skill and time went into it, my home is a Saxon settlement and yet I don't remember anything being found and displayed which I think is sad. Personally I'm a fan of the bow and arrow but I would most definitely have to go for the Dane axe as a choice.

As much as I want to say a sword that is encrusted with almandines and inlaid with gold I would probably have to settle for a spear since it is effective and doesn’t take too much skill

Im not a viking, but If I should pick a weapon I would go with 2 short axes or 1 axe and a speer, a knife in the belt ofcause, great video. It is not the dark ages so please use the Axes for landcaping, and garden work.

Main weapon for all was the spear. No one used helmets so why are they on the Top list- also not a weapon?

An interesting video as usual. Could you please do one on musical instruments or maybe war trumpets or any other instrument used by the Vikings? I think that it's interesting to learn all aspects from their culture not just about war and violence.

Archery would be My choice. I want to be far away from sharp swords of My enemies.

It would depend on what weapons were in the house when I was young. You have 10 or more years to get good with your weapon of choice, before you are allowed to join the battles. My first choice would be a bow, with an axe in my belt and maybe even a smallish shield, to help on the defense.

They beat people with their helmets? I would think they use helmets for  armor or protection from their enemies arms during battle but not as a weapon.

How is a helmet a weapon it's classed as armour in any books I have read along with Maille ? And Viking weapons. Spear/Axe//Seax/ Bow/sword and even the Shield was used as a weapon. And only the very rich could afford the full set. But nearly every man had the Seax/A Knife .

What program do you use to make the intro's ??

Can my answer be yes? I'm not sure which one would be my preference. I used to be a pretty decent shot with a bow. Not sure how I'd be with an axe &/or sword. I will say that I'm willing to bet that shields were more prevalent than current belief. Nothing says that the less rich may have made them without boss's. If that's the case, we won't be finding them because they've all succumbed to the age of time.
