Baseball Stats Explained! Sabermetrics 101: WAR, wOBA, FIP

I explain some baseball stats, more specifically sabermetrics! I cover 3 stats that I think are very important and good at showing the production/value of a player. These 3 are WAR, wins above replacement, wOBA, weighted on base average, and FIP, fielding independent pitching. If you're a true fan of the game you'll want to learn these stats if you haven't already and master them ASAP!

What do you think is the most useful stat in baseball?

I love sabermetrics/analytics. I think it paints a better picture of players' worth.

Thanks a lot. I find a lot of different statistics that seem similar to each other. I guess my other question would be how does FIP differ from DIPS ERA?

I am very old school. I look at it this way: 1. Can he hit? 2. Can he run? 3. Does he have power? 4. Does he drive in runs. Basic information and I think using that simple basic info is good enough.

So for the batting runs component of wOBA, do you use RC (runs created)?

If your WAR is positive, I wouldn't call you a scrub. Scrubs are replacement-level guys - folks at zero or below.
