I know there are faster drives out there lol This the fastest *Micro Center branded flash drive

But! As I go through my flash drive journey: I'm looking for the smallest, cheapest, fastest and most reliable drive. Preferably, something I can build myself. If anyone has any recommendations, leave a comment and I'll check it out.

I use USB to Mini PCI-E adapters. The SSD's are dirt cheap and hit the limits of SATA.

I have more than 5 SanDisk slim 128gb usb drives. I got them all on a deal for $55 ish. They use USB 3.1 Gen2, and typically give me 200 to 400 MiB/S read and write when copying files. Note that there are also just extremly fast, as in 1-2GiB/s (really depends on the nand) fast, NAND flash memory based usb drives, which are WAYY better than emmc (it’s the same tech in fancy nvme drives) Your drive is great for a decade ago, not today. Still a nice little project though!

Which tool did you use fo upload the firmware

I think it wouldve been a lot simpler to get an NVMe SSD and get an adapter. Thats what I did, read speeds up to 980 and 512gb of storage that will never thermal throttle (looking at you Kingston Datatravaler max)

Okay but i think even micro center has speedy ones. You just have to know what to get.

Which software did you use for the firmware ?

Did you create custom firmware for this? Is that a very complex process?

Hello Chase,
This would be a nice training and learning experiment for me. Can you please provide the part numbers of the items used especially the NTDO switch console.
Thanks in advance!

I bet the original drive is dirt cheap, but how much would cost the drive made this way? Double or maybe triple the price of the original?
