Building a four node Raspberry Pi Kubernetes Cluster

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video, I detail all of the steps on how I have built a four-node Kubernetes cluster with microk8s, using Raspberry Pis

The hardware used 💾
- USB-C charging cables -- the ones I bought don't exist anymore on Amazon

When I bought all the components, I definitely did not spend more than 100
EUR on each pi.

The guides used 📖

⏱️Timestamps⏱️
00:00 - Explaining the hardware setup of the Pis
04:18 - Walking through the Ubuntu tutorials linked in the description

Thank you for daring to make this type of video, it has inspired me and created my own cluster. Greetings from Panamá 👋🤠

Wowww, it's a great opportunity to make Ansible videos while you are configuring those 4 Pi. 😊 btw great video.

Hello Anais, I use Microk8s exclusively for this. Good Job by the way. By the way PoE (Power over ethernet) works anywhere.

Instead of Raspberry Pi with limited availability you might want to use Libre (performance is ~ between a 3b and 4). I run my Stockfish Cluster Engine on a cluster with a mix of Libre and Raspberry Pi.

Great introduction.
Love to see a new Playlist "Anais's Home Lab" ;-)
Btw. my cluster is looking the same, just with cabled network.

I tried to build my cluster from scratch with microk8s but I found the incompatibility of both microk8s abd kubectl with armv7 being 32 bits with the one in the amd64 k8s repository, thank you if you could give me recommendations

With your setup, does this split a task to different nodes. Or is it 1x1x2. Like if I want to write a 50 GB empty file. Would it be 25 and 25 worked on at same time. Or do you have to tell and give instructions to one to do one task. Which is the way of all this kubernetes/microk8? I am very new. Building currently my first cluster. But this question is in my heart. Burning inside and dying to clarify. I get an itch because I don't know anyone in my life who knows more then me. I am alone. And online fills this void. Does it do the splits or is it ordered 1 task at a time. Thank you for making this video. It was an adventure to hear your episode/video. Good luck in your education and hope your thesis went well? 2023/now 25.

I can recommend to move from microk8s to k3s ( microk8s is too problematic for so slow computer like rpi )

i've got my first raspberry pi5 so i can learn about linux / servers /k8s as well,
as i have only one for now, will it work if i use it with k3s for that single pi5 ? (with 8gb ram version)

Useful video. Im using four of RPi 3, and they running ubuntu 23.04. Stuck on the following error.

$ sudo snap install microk8s --classic
error: snap "microk8s" is not available on stable for this architecture (armhf) but exists on other
architectures (amd64, arm64).

I wanted to build that, but Pi's are so expensive in these days!
I should have bought it 2 years ago too 😅

Is raspberry pi 4B 2Gb sufficient to run microk8s or shall I go for a 4GB model. Need some suggestions as I’m planning to build one
