I think the important thing to distinguish with the dog is that they should only do it when told to. It can be a very useful command when used properly.

My dog has hip problems ever since he was a puppy, we didn’t teach him paw he just naturally started using it as a way to communicate for assistance. It’s amazing

We have a rottweiler and he only does paw when we ask him to..but still even when we know its coming its still strong af

My dog knows paw is for when she wants something. We taught it to her a as a trick and now she uses it for I need food, I need potty, I want to go out. She’s so smart and it’s nice to have that so you know when your dog needs anything.

Yes. I taught my dog Hugo (blue heeler) paw and don’t get me wrong it’s adorable! But it makes it difficult when teaching him new tricks because every time I’m teaching him a new trick or telling him a trick he knows but doesn’t do too often like “lay down” (we already have drop for dropping a toy so we had to call it lay down instead) he immediately resorts to paw.
He sits there confused with one paw in the air trying to give it to me 🥺

We use paw for wiping feet coming indoors, trimming nails, etc
