Wondering what the best programming language for coding interviews is? The best programming language for algorithms and data structures? Hint: it supports loops, conditionals, and functions.

I'd definitely use Whitespace. It's a programming language that's just whitespace. Non-whitespace is ignored.

Man this question has been bugging me for days now. The universe really does listen. Gonna do DSA in JS now.

You are 100% percent correct. My best programming language is also Javascript so I would also prefer using that for my interviews!

I prefer to tackle all those front-end challenges like "center this div or "write an event handler for this button" using SQL

That first language you suggested had me laughing with glee :D

I've had this question a while back. It was inspired first by not having a language that I knew well enough to pass interviews in. If you're going to invest the effort in learning a language well you want to make a good choice. Also, although I didn't really think that the interviewer would not favor me for a particular language choice, it crossed my mind that one language may help you make less mistakes (maybe python), or was quicker to learn (JS may be more intuitive if you've seen a C++ and Java also), or maybe the quality coding solutions you'll find are written in a a particular language (Java could be good as for this). Finally, it crossed my mind that by choosing a language like C++ you might be bringing harder concepts (maybe memory allocation) into play. In general, JS and python are good defaults, but if your goal is to work in a particular field, you may as well work to master the language of that field as you study for coding interviews.

Ça serait drôle de te voir parler en français du coup.
Merci pour tes vidéos, elles sont très intéressantes!

Thanks man, I was having a dillema for choosing Javascript as its my most used language (front-end dev obviously) but was confused about other languages because what if they don't let you choose javascript. I will be using Javascript for my DSA learning from now on.

The intro didn't work on me, but it was hilarious 🤣, I'll give you that

Choose a language for its framework support and language features (math, data structures etc). For example .NET has a lot more primitives than JS. Generics, BigInteger and more. Some coding challenges can be done in one line. No experience writing Python, but saw a few one line solutions for Project Euler written in Python. How much you need to type matters a lot when the assessment is timed.

For a real Python example, I know Python can handle type upscale automatically. So if the task is to tell last 10 digits of some 1000 digit number, you literally just do the calculations as you would for a smaller number, and it "just works" for big ones, without you writing any special code.

Could you speak more on the difference between tech interviews for SE and hedge fund/quant interviews?

I have to do a little research . I recently had to switch to learning Swift because I feel like making an app that help some people. Before that I thought I wanna be a DS. It’s definitely difficult to wrap ur head around how at FANG they would let someone like me interview in python if I wanna make iOS apps

Do you remember what coding questions they asked you on your interviews? What were they?

i just watched your video on Self-Taught Programmer vs Coding Bootcamp vs Computer Science Degree, starting my hard, painful and miserable road as self-taught. Is it possible that can you give pointers or steps on what to learn after the basics of syntax? like when to learn algorithms, design patterns, UML and the minimal knowledge on each. Of course i have learned a bit of each but i really dont know how much is "enough".

I just realized an interesting pattern

people who speak french say words like dose and base more like doze and baze
i don't know is that actually a thing

D'où viens-tu plus particulièrement ?
