If "Disable Device" is gray or doesn't show up at all, the disk is reserved for a pagefile. Relocate the pagefile on another disk, restart the PC and you will be able to disable the disk.

Hi. just came across this vid as I try to find a way to temporarily disable my old system (Windows) SSD without unplugging it because I just had a new SSD and cloned the old one. I need the old SSD back in the future to format it to another simple drive, so I don't want to take that from my motherboard. This method seems to work, with right click, properties, driver, disable drive. However, I found with just right click in the partition area, there's an option to make that drive offline/online and it seems to work the same. I'm confused, do you know the differences between disabling the drive via properties tab, and right click and set that drive online/offline? thank you in advance!
*edit: spelling and add some information

Well, I knew what you have suggested, but it doesn't work if you want to come back and "activate" the HD. The voice "Roll Back Driver" is not working.

I have a hard drive with secondary OS (Win 7 for legacy games), I don't want to see it in the other OS Win 10. I am unable to disable it, but I could disable a ssd nvme drive that has another Win 10 on it. Is there any way to disable it or flag it offline? I really don't want to access it in Win 10. The only patch fix I found was to remove the drive letter, that removed the drive from My Computer, but still, I would like it disabled.

Does disabling it deletes all the data?

Edit :- Right click and press on offline, it will disable it without deleting anything

I disabled all hard drives (temporarily) For a performance test in Windows. So that the test itself does not affect these local hard drives. A good way ! But to install a new Windows safely. I have to turn off the SATA cables of all drives except the drive (C:\). So in the BIOS I did not find. how to disable hard drives there during the installation of another Windows
