I use the jack stands my grandfather bought back in like the 50s. They're solid steel and weigh about as much as a car, but you can support a diesel truck in all four corners and climb in the bed and jump around and the things won't move at all.

"These jack stands will kill you" only shows jack stands that won't kill you.

One thing I was taught by a cousin of mine that I still do till this day (only if I'm working on something that requires the tires to come off), is I also lay the tires underneath the car. In the event that either of the jack stands fail, you have the tire(s) as a fail safe.

I called a young man from Craigslist to do brakes lines. He arrives, jacks up the back end of the car with a hydraulic jack and proceeds to lay under the car. I scolded him. I ran to my back yard and got him jack stands as back up along with the hydraulic jack for safety. I told him to never lay under a car that is held up only by a hydraulic jack. I said, "Don't do that to your parents and your young wife". I really yelled at him. I hope he got the message. I've seen jacks fail. I know one man who was found lifeless by his family crushed under a car. You guys out there, if you work on a car, use two or even three support systems. One main one, and one or even two extra back up support devices. You have a death wish if you lay under a car with only the hydraulic jack holding it.

For added safety, I always put my mother in law under the car when I’m working.

My buddy was laughing at me when I put my wifes suburban up on beefy 6ton stands so I could drop the tank to do the sending unit. His words were "dont you think those things are overkill bud" my response was "overkill is the only kill bud" lol I refuse to be a asphalt pancake

I used to always work on my car in the backyard when I was younger and would put a huge cut tree stump under the car along with jack stands just for an added sense of security. I used to feel so comfortable I would sometimes fall asleep laying under the car.

Getting jack stand of excessive capacity is one thing I would do if I can do it again. Instead of getting 3T jack stand that is enough for my cars, I would simply get 6T for the extra height and safety.

I’m an Emergency Room Nurse. We had a guy who was crushed after his jack failed and collapsed.
He came in by ambulance after his family found him hours later.

He did not survive.

Please buy and use Jack Stands ! !

This guy is right. Please never use a harbor freight jackstand or any cheaply made one. January of this year I lost my uncle due to a faulty jackstand from there. Spending the extra money is better than loosing your life. Stay safe everyone.

I jack it up and then put wood beams(I have a big fear of ending up stuck or flattened)

"They don't build em like they used to" that old saying continues to ring true.

I always use 2, just to make sure, and leave the jack in place as well. I’m not a fan of sudden death

When you realize how flimsy many cheap hydraulic jacks are, it is doubly essential to use good jack stands.

This is crazy! The timing, the context. Definitely not a coincidence. Thank you Scotty

Three things in life you never cheap out on: jack stands, health insurance, and toilet paper.

Same here, my father has these jacks, they are probably over 40 years old and they weigh a ton. They don't make things like they used to. Most of the tools we have are decades old. Snap-On, Mac etc. All American made and will probably last forever.
