In a relay, race athletes compete in teams.
Each team consists of four players.
The team that completes four separate baton passes legally and successfully and has its last runner cross the finish line first wins the race.

Mr A: The runner must carry the baton by hand, if it is dropped, it can be picked up.

Also Mr. A: If the baton is dropped in the middle of the race, the team is disqualified.

My teammate dropped as he tried to pass it to me and it went into another lane. I waited for the other team to pass as we were winning until then. Once they left I got the baton and won even tho they had a head start on me and we got disqualified. They did too for some reason idk why.

the 4x 400 relay is run differently due to the fact the 2nd leg is still in the same lane and then cross over-followed by the placement of the next leg 3 and 4 runners - when the baton is at the 200 meter mark-- once placed by the official- you do not change spots- even if the incoming line up has changed, since the 200 meter mark

Im super nervous I have a meet tomorrow and it’s my first time running a relay. Im so confused because my relay coach isn’t a very good explainer and told me that I’m running the bend of the track but I’m running a 4x4?? 😭😭

Two important
1. You must exchange the baton within the 66-foot exchange area. Especially for those sprint races. You miss that rule, and you are disqualified as well as the team.
2. You are also disqualified for letting the baton drop (as well as the team also) during the exchange. DON'T LET THE BATON DROP DURING THE RELAY RACE!

This helped me so much because I had a test on the race. I DO recommend that if Your P.E Coach tells you and why you may ask. My coach said to go on YouTube and see a real race because you guys did not follow the directions.

11 conflicts 13. 11 says the baton can be retrived if dropped, and 13 says the team is disqualified if the baton is dropped.
