Why remove the air filter cover at all? Snorkels were designed to get cooler air into the engine; which reduces the engine temperature. It also means denser air goes into the chamber, which means a better combustion and increased power. This in turn also improves economy. By taking the cover off the air filter you are sucking in hot thin air into your motor; reducing the life span of your engine; and effectively negating the snorkel and all it is meant to do to improve your vehicle's operation.
As for the jumping, glad you have heaps of money to burn when the repairs come calling.

"7 slot grille that everyone runs _these days_"? Might be worth checking when the 7-slot grille came in to fashion. Not telling you which grille to run but if you want to be different, ditch that douche nozzle of a snorkle and the JW-knockoff looking head lights.
