I work at a very busy auto auction and this happens very often. Mostly you can use the bypass method successfully. If all else fails, sometimes you can literally hit above the gearshift knob with your fist and it will decide to work. Good luck

If the key wont work in the slot try opening the door. That works until you can get the problem fixed.

Yes trying to align a fusion and need to roll freely might have to make a tool to hold in place

Just fixed one that had the bushing off the shifter cable/rod. Had to hold it while someone shifted the dial.
