Not understanding what Jesus meant by this phrase "I did not come to abolish the law" has led to so much legalism in the Body of Christ. Find out what it really means and how we should apply it to the Church. Matthew 5:17

I think you are missing or leaving out the connection words that connect one following phrase to the previous phrase.
Verse 17-18 says the law is here to stay.
The opening of v19 is "Therefore." This means 17 and 18 are connected to 19 in their thought context.
So because the law and prophets are not going away (17, 18) you can not break them or tell other to.(19)
It is really that simple.

I do agree that because of grace through faith He imputs His righteousness to true believers, just as it has always been, see Abraham and Habakkuk 2.

You skipped over the part that says, "until heaven and earth pass away".. Heaven and earth have not passed away at all. So that hasnt been fulfilled. Yashua said until "ALL" had been fulfilled.

I guess we can now kill and adulter, right?

Can we now steal from one another?

I mean, we're covered by grace right?

In Mathew 5, 17 the greek word for fullfill is 'plerosai'. That means to bring something to it's fullness. In fact Jesus said, I came to bring the law to it's full meaning. That's what he did in the preach of the mountain. And in verse 18 the greek word for accomplished (or fullfilled) is 'genotai'. That means to accomplish, to finish or to bring to pass or to happen. But heaven and earth aren't passed away yet, therefore the law and the prophets aren't fullfilled yet.
As Jesus taught in verse 19, whoever does and teach the least of the commandments, he will be called great in the kingdom of god.
But you belong to those, of whom Jesus taught: Whoever abolish the least of the commandments and teach the people also, he will be called the least in the kingdom of god.
The righteousness of the scribes and the pharasees was in their obediance to the commandments and teachings of men, with which they "abolished" gods commandments (regard Marc 7).

Amazing to me how many people are missing the heart of Jesus and still think we need to follow Old Testament laws like not eating pork and such. However those same people don't actually follow ALL the Old Testament laws... Jesus doesn't make sense to people who just want to follow rules and try and make themselves righteous. But to those who are saved through Him the scriptures are revealed and understood.

The Crucifixion took place not to replace The Law, but to Enhance our ability to stick with it through Grace. Grace is our advocate when we inevitably fail to keep one of The Laws. Grace is what prevents us from condemning ourselves when we slip and fail to keep one of The Laws. Grace alleviates us from having to be perfect. But It does not alleviate us from still having to TRY to do The Law. So no, The Law is NOT done away with. But the need to be perfect is. i don’t understand why this is so hard for people, especially “christians”, to understand. just because we have The Blood of The Lamb as an ADVOCATE, does not mean that it is a licence to transgress The Law. His Blood was NOT a replacement of The Law, but rather the ADVOCATE we call upon when we make an honest mistake. He is our Mediator and our Intercessor. But HE is NOT going to Make Intercession for someone who isn’t even TRYING to keep The Law. Keyword, TRY. Our Father Yah does not Ask that we be perfect, but that we put forth our honest effort. YAHUSHA HAMASHIACH is The Law manifested in the flesh, and Grace manifested in The Spirit. Grace is His Essence and The Law is His Substance. And no one intermarries these two interdependent elements better or more Beautifully than Yahusha HaMashiach. His Life is literally Him keeping The Law to a tee while exhibiting the utmost Grace and Humility as people try to stone Him to death and crucify Him. “christians” need to stop acting like we have to choose between Grace and The Law. by doing so, they are no better than the Pharisees who only wanted The Law, but rejected Grace and Intimacy with Yahusha HaMashiach. “christians” on the other hand, are the other extreme, which is someone who wants the Intimacy without the genuine effort of keeping The Law that is supposed to be written in their hearts. HalleluYAHUAH. HalleluABBA YAHUSHA HAMASHIACH.

Seems to me when people fail all other vocations, they fall down the lowest IQ job - become Preachers. Nowhere else can you attempt such ridiculous mental gymnastics and still get paid for it.

That Matt 5:17 explanation is inconsistent with scripture... without the law you are lawless

The law will not be abolished until all is accomplished. It is accomplished for believers because we trust Jesus fulfilled. Not for unbelievers. Why? Because how will sinners know they are sinners without the law? Yeah their conscience bears witness, but it’s not enough. The law is for unbelievers. For believers they’re fulfilled in Christ. We don’t need the law to baby sit us any longer. We know what’s harmful for our lives

You made an error, Sir. Yehoshua said, in Matthew 5:17-18 NKJV
[17] "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. [18] For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

matthew 5:16-19 let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven. THINK NOT that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets I am not come to destroy but to fulfil for verily I say to you till heaven and earth pass (has that happened yet ) one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled ( thats including the prophecy about the third temple in jerusalem in daniel chapter 9, that's including the prophecy about new jerusalem in the book of revelations) whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments and teach men to do so so shall he be called least in the kingdom of heaven but whosoever shall do and teach them the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven
matthew 19:17 and why call you me good there is none good but one that is Elohim but if you will enter into life keep the commandments
john 15:7-10 if you abide in me and my words abide in you you shall ask what you will and it shall be done to you herein is my father glorified that you may bear much fruit so shall you be my disciple as the father has loved me so have I loved you continue in my love if you keep my commandments you shall abide in my love even as I have kept my fathers commandments and abide in his love
and remember when Yeshua was asked what were the two greatest commandments
matthew 22:37-40 And Yeshua said to them you shall love YAH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind this is the first and great commandment and the second is like to it you shall love your neighbour as yourself on these two commandments HANG ALL THE LAWS AND THE PROPHETS. so if we keep all the commandments we follow the two greatest commandments. and as well didnt Jesus say in john 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you He that believes on me the works that I do shall he do also and greater works than these shall he do because I go to my Father. And what kind of works did the messiah do ?
the law of Moses. And in regards to " God nailed it on the cross" when he died the only thing he fulfilled was the forgiveness of sin as it is written in Matthew 26:26-28
And as they were eating Yeshua took bread and blessed it and brake it, and gave it to the disciples and said, Take eat this is my body.
And he took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying Drink ye all of it
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for THE REMISSIONS OF SINS ( not doing away or as you say completion of the law ).if we look at Luke 24 when the two travellers are walking to Emmaus it is written in
Luke 24:25-27
Then he said to them O fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the THINGS CONCERNING HIMSELF ( not referring to the law but according to the ultimate atonement talked about in Isaiah 53 for he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him and by his stripes we were healed ) And as a side note if Yeshua came to fulfill all prophecies concerning himself where in the old testament does it say the law will be changed or done away with ? Instead Isaiah said that the law will be expanded
In chapter 42:21 For Yah is well pleased for his righteousness sake he will MAGNIFY the law and make it honourable. Ezekiel says in Ezekiel 36:26-27 A new heart also will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you an heart of flesh and cause you to walk in my statutes and keep my judgments and do them. So let me ask you did Yeshua really do away with the law ?

So Jesus did not abolish the law but he abolished it later? Sound doctrine is very rare these days..!!!

The only people who need a verse that clear to be explained are people who don’t like what it said. Lol. Simple as that. Verse is self explanatory just like everything else Jesus said

Can you please explain Matthew 7:23 then?

Horrible interpretation. Not biblical at all. Stop twisting scripture to suit your agenda to not be obedient.

So far, this is the best explanation of these verses I’ve come across. And I’ve come across a lot of people/ministries that have tried to explain it. Great job.
