They DO have a chance, if only they refuse to sell their players lol. But who the hell can refuse Real Madrid 😭

It's the infinite cycle of modern football. A "smaller" club has a breakout season or impresses in European competitions, they lose 4-6 of their best players to rich clubs, and most of the time the players flop there. It's actually sad😢

Villa however is actually doing business by losing Douglas luiz for 2 juve players and replacing him with onana so technically they are better than last season

All the best Leverkusen players are still in the club such as Frimpong, Wirtz and also Boniface

Villa is cooking this window. They’ve brought in some serious talent.

There was another underdog story in the Bundesliga. Heidenheim going from the 5th division to the Confrence League

I think Villa will survive or even get better next season. They start to operate like a big club, getting maatsen and onana is good business

It’s been next-to-impossible for smaller clubs to do anything for decades. Every now and again it happens but the clubs make the same mistakes. They’ll sell their top 3 players, bring in £100mil and then waste the money. Don’t sell, buy smart and they could each build something. Bologna are about to pocket £75million for two players - mostly profit. If they piss it up the wall, they’ve only themselves to blame.

Aston villa still have a really good chance tbh if they just recute right and get the players they need in they will be top 4 contestants again

If they do business right its a massive help to small clubs, sell a young academy player for a decent fee helps strengthen the rest of the team. Brighton are a perfect example of this

Villa's still cooking though, even though they've lost Luiz and Diaby, they've replaced them with some really good signings.

Except Leverkusen none of the underdogs matched our expectations 😭💀

Eintracht Frankgurt Fan here, this phenomenon has benn in Germany for years now. Eintracht cannot hold their players for longer than a year, especially forwards. PSG is gonna reunite all our best players one day.

This is why trophies will always go to the bigger more financially stable clubs. Supporting lower/average clubs is a better experience imo than that of supporting someone elite

It’s the structure of a football pyramid now. Smaller teams sign these players and get 1-2 good seasons from them and then they get shipped to bigger clubs for more money. Teams that are not considered the ‘biggest’ in their respective countries don’t have a chance to win silverware no more because all their best players end up being signed by bigger clubs. And so the cycle will continuously repeat

Villa have made decent signings, Lewis Dobbin, Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen all have decent potential. Ross Barkley also had a notable season with Luton Town. They haven't sold any massive names, the likes of Watkins, Konsa, Mcginn, Martinez and Dendoncker are still at the club, they should be fine

To the people saying they could easily refuse them, most of them have release clauses that are triggered when a club offers a certain amount of money. For example if Real Madrid offered to take a player from AS Monoco for 11 million and his release clause is 8 million, the club uas to let him go. Most small clubs will have this set for obvious financial reasons.

Yet we still continuously have underdogs coming through the ranks

Respect Xabi Alonso for not selling players

Villa have also spent the most on players out of any team in the world so far in the transfer window and still want to break the club record signing with Joao Felix so I don’t think they have anything to worry about.
