Multicast streaming is a beneficial way for PoE security cameras to reduce bandwidth usage by streaming a single video feed to the network so multiple viewers can watch it. In this video, we show the process of enabling multicast streaming on an Avalonix Premium Series PoE Security Camera. We start by discussing the two methods available for multicast: TCP and UDP. The camera's default settings already have the TCP method enabled, and we demonstrate how to adjust its settings via the web interface. We recommend using the VLC media player software to preview the stream to ensure multicast is working and the stream is visible. You can download VLC Media Player from their website at the following link:
If you prefer to use UDP, we also show you how to turn it on by sending specific commands to your camera through a URL in a web browser. This protocol utilizes port 20000, and while it's not by default enabled, this video outlines the necessary steps to turn it on. Once UDP is streaming to a multicast address, you can use VLC media player to pull the stream and verify it’s working properly. You can stream using TCP and UDP simultaneously, but we recommend turning the one you're not actively using off. Using only one reduces the unnecessary processing load on your camera and uses less network bandwidth.
Following our step-by-step guide, you'll be ready to set up a successful multicast stream from your Avalonix Premium Series PoE camera. Be sure to have a web browser, Notepad software, and VLC media player open as you follow this video tutorial!

Be sure to pair it with a PoE injector or switch for power, if you don't have one already.
