The Great Pyramid North Face Corridor: What do we know so far? | Ancient Architects

Last week, an International Press Conference in front of the Great Pyramid of Egypt announced the discovery of a new pyramid passageway, 9 metres long, 2 metres wide and just over 2 metres tall, located behind the chevron blocks on the north face of the Great Pyramid. It is therefore referred to as the North Face Corridor, or NFC for short.

The discovery has got everybody talking, everybody with an interest in the Great Pyramid has something to say and I’ll do separate videos on the various hypotheses in the coming weeks and months.

In this video, I’m going to take a closer look at the corridor one week after the announcement, because I think it’s great if we can keep the conversation going so please watch and comment your thoughts, ideas and hypotheses below.

Please check out these fantastic resources regarding the Great Pyramid North Face Corridor:

It is absolutely inexcusable for any parties involved, that this fantastic monument is so unexplored. The chevrons have been exposed for a long time. Thank you for posting this.

Never does this channel not impress with a greatly curated content. Keep it up

I'm 100% certain that The Egyptian authorities already knew about the existence of the corridor and that this is not the first time that the endoscopic camera recorded the corridor behind the chevrons! There is no way that they allowed the camera without knowing in advance what will be seen on the video!

You and HFG have become my favorite channels on all things ancient. Wouldn't be interesting if everything we've seen inside the pyramid so far was meant to be the easy to find parts?

Great work!

I sure wish CFapps was still here to contribute, he would have loved this

One thing to note is that current muography technics cannot detect passageway that are smaller than 1x1 m. So it is still possible that there is a passageway bellow or behind the corridor.

Like i said on a channel that covered this day one. It should be obvious it's meant to actually be the real entrance to the pyramid. The tunnel people use to get into the tunnel currently was dug into the side of the pyramid below and down to the side of the actual real entrance. Can't believe people pass it off as simply speculation when it should be so obvious. Also the entrance is facing the north which makes sense as well.

Nice job. Also, thank you for clearly showing the location and scale of this newly discovered passage. I finally have a good sense of it now.

I remember doing a school report in the early 90's where I showed the "unknown void" next to the queen's chamber. Either we knew about that for a lot longer than 5 years, or I have been Mandela'd into a new universe.

I find it upsetting that a camera hasn't been stuck through every suspect crack and crevice present in the Giza plateau. This tech has been available on the cheap for many years, expensive equipment would not be required to make initial explorations and documentation of potentially interesting sites.

Just the fact that this area has been the focus of speculation for years, and nobody had thought to simply stick a camera in the gaps.

Matt, i was going to ask about your idea that the Pyramid was extended and what you thought this corridor might have in connection with it, i look forward to your update ..

I was in cairo in January and i refuse to believe anyone capable of cutting and moving these blocks would make any mistakes. It's more likely they designed errors to mislead people away from whatever is within the structure and to think there is simply nothing to find. Eventually we will have the technology to accurately scan for detailed gaps, joins and voids until then the mystery will continue and we need to keep open minds. I just hope i live long enough for the answer to be revealed. Absolutely fascinating subject from an engineering point of view.

I was a supporter of geopolymer theory of construction of those blocks, by Joseph Davidovits. But after the discovery of this corridor, seeing the rough finishing of those blocks somewhat destroyed my convinctions. If rock blocks are made of a kind of concrete, they cannot sport rough faces because they are made already finished, and that's not the case. Unfortunately these are real rocks extracted from quarries. So still more mysterious and of more difficult accomplishment.

What I don't get is why they don't put endoscopic cameras in every opening that they can find in the pyramids? Why does THAT much proof need to happen BEFORE they just poke a camera into places that will cause no damage?

Regardless, thank you for this video, Matt, and I appreciate that you question why it took so long as well, since no damage was caused.

Some questions about Early Dynastic Egypt. At what point in history did the Egyptians gain access to domestic cattle? And at what point did theh begin to use them for pulling plows? And once they started to use them to pull plows why would they not use them to pull heavy loads as might be involved in construction. Also at what point in history did the Egyptians begin using the wheel?

is it possible that this corridor is how they got the three granite blocks into the pyramid in the first place, pushed right to the queens chamber and then pushed down the ascending passage to plug it??

The floor seems covered by a thick layer of dust, which should be sampled and analyzed.
It should be the only place untouched since it was built, so if the dust is made of blocks minerals, it should mean that the blocks were cut and polished on the pyramid, and the workplace must had been very dirty.
If it is desert sand, it may had been a dust storm, or may mean that the construction was interrupted for a season, or some long time.

It may have footprints, and other hints documenting the construction process, which should be studied.

If the big void ends up being something akin to the grand gallery, it will pretty much confirm Houdin's theory regarding its use for carrying granite blocks. The existence of two galleries implies that the one above, and yet undiscovered, was used to carry granite blocks above the descending corridor. In this scenario, the granite blocks would impose a larger pressure on the parts of the descending corridor closest to the façade of the pyramid, which could be relieved by the north face corridor and its chevrons as they functioned as a stress relieving chamber.
