Before the film came out i D hoped there would be a moment like this. Naturally, Miller nailed it.

Okay, so I’ve done some theorizing. This flashback, although seemingly just a cameo, actually has pretty big significance in the timeline. If you look at the interceptor, you can see that it still has its front bumper, and if you have seen Mad Max 2, you’ll know that the bumper was removed prior to the events of the movie. This means that this flashback takes place in the 1980s, sometime after Mad Max 1 and before Mad Max 2. The interceptor is also a lot more beat up by the events of Mad Max 2, which leads me to believe that Max is currently traveling inland away from the coast as society degrades even more, or perhaps, (considering George Miller confirmed this) the nuclear war had just occurred, explaining why the lands are so barren. But after all, this very well could be an alternate universe to the original trilogy, but who knows.

God, I really wish we'd get a film that has more of Max using the Interceptor. It's so iconic, but barely gets any screentime if you think about it.
