I was like, “This sounds like the Scottish guy who learns skills.” Turns out.

The fact that you were considerate enough to make modifications to your pottery for your kitty is admirable ❤

Something that helps with learning glazes, is make a plain slab like a stone tablet. Make a little dab of a colour and scratch in the name of the colour underneath or above. When you have that done, fire it in the kiln and when it comes out you have a nice reference “sheet” on the colours. ^^

I think pottery look likes one of the most fun and rewarding hobbies, you just need a buddy to start with because it might get boring alone after a couple failed attempts

The “failures” would still sell just fine out of a pottery shop. Many potential customers would love the oddball character those have. I can confirm this as both a former amateur potter and former shopkeep.

Bruh that mink jug looks hella cool, I would totally buy it, it's got this cool drippy look to it and reminds me of a cow with the white and black, I really like it and all of the pottery you made looks amazing, I made pottery once for my art class, some of the glazes are less scary and some look exactly like how it looks when on except scratch the glaze look

Something my ceramic Professor told us was to always write down our glazes (combos and/or how much we layered them) and the pieces they correspond with. That way you always know which stuff works and what doesn't. Helped a lot when I was trying to do a series based on this specific layered color combo I wanted to do. What didn't help was no one tested the glazes after they sat untouched during the first COVID lockdown and all our pieces were messed up. I got lucky that the colors and textures I got weren't bad, but some were absolutely unrecoverable. The hardest part of ceramics is that it's a trial and error art form. There's no way to know if your pieces are going to look like how you want them too or if they're gonna be destroyed at some point along the way. Best thing to do is write EVERYTHING down, sketch out ideas on what you wanna make, or sketch them after you've thrown them. Write down what glazes you use and where and how you've used them. And the best thing is to be flexible. I'm primarily a 2D artist so this was hard for me. It was hard to accept at times that I could do everything right and it might still not look like how I want it to look at the end of the day. Making test tiles for glazes is super fun, you can make them smooth in areas and give them texture in others, do a layered effect to see how thin vs thick vs thicker layers effect the translucency and do drips to see how the color pools. Honestly the best thing you can do is experiment a ton and not get super attached to one thing. Everything you make is wonderful in itself bc it shows your journey and the progress you make along the way. :)

Such an interesting topic. I hope we will get more than two minutes as short content

I have a recommendation. After glazing it and before kilning it, try adding marbles or colored glass pebbles at the bottom your creation because they will melt and can add a beautiful pattern.

It's really nice to see someone who is still learning show stuff like this.

Really sells how difficult it is

Don't give up! Sometimes people specifically want something a little more messy compared to the normal stuff sold in stores. It gives it so much character and I love the cut out bowls you made for your cats 💕💕💕

So happy to see pottery strike a chord in your heart. It's the best artform

Relationships are like pottery. They’re terribly difficult to make, you’ll have quite a few failed attempts, and they’re terrifyingly easy to shatter.

As a potter myself it is hard, at first, but believe me it is sooo worth learning!! Opening a kiln full of pieces you have made with your own two hands is one of the best feelings ever!!!

I didn't realize the clay just fully collapses when you make a mistake, most tv shows just have it going out of shape.
