Here's a couple examples:

One level up from project folder, subdirectory called Output:

[projectFolder]/../Output/[compName].[fileExtension]

To add to this aleady awesome tip, you can use the '..' and navigate up from the project folder.

I keep my after effects files a subfolder from the rest of my assets. By using something like: [projectFolder]..\Exports\etc..., you can put your render anywhere you'd like relative to your project folder.

No idea if you're ever seeing this (old video and all), but is there any way to do this with Adobe Media Encoder? It would save me tons of time. It's great that it's possible directly in After Effects. I would love to be able to just go ../renders in Media Encoder as well as a default output.

I keep trying to set this up but when I set something to render with ctrl M, it doesn't do this by default. It just says 'Not yet specified' in the output to section. I ticked the default tick and the setting in preferences saying to use default name and folder. Any suggestions?
