As a former water treatment operator i can say that we have a hard rule that fixes that:
The air gap must be at least twice the diameter of the receiving pipe or container
So a safe gap for a measuring cup would be something like 13cm (five inches), depending on the size of your measuring cup

I would like to see the experiment with particles that do not float, it seems like it is just floating up, try with somthing that has neutral buoyancy

I don't remember when I subscribed to this channel, but every time my curiosity gets me to click on your videos, I end up having a deja vu of why I subscribed. I just don't want' to miss out on what you're sharing because it always pulls me back to my fascination for physics. When you spend most of your time looking at books, you eventually just go with the flow of studying what's there forget that you once actually had a fascination for this stuff.
