I live close to the concentration camp Sachsenhausen in Oranienburg Germany, August Dickmann was the first German who got executed because he refused to go to war. He was a Jehovas Witness.

Jokes aside: the reason JW were placed in concentration camps was because of their neutral stance. They refused to follow nazi orders that conflicted with bible principles. As a result, the government saw them as enemies of the state. After placing them in concentration camps many JW would receive an invitation to leave the camp on the condition that they resign their faith, “just sign this paper and walk out” the nazi would say. Most held on to their integrity… they were honored in the holocaust museums as one of the few groups (if not the only group) who were there because of their refusal to attack Jews even if it meant their lives would be taken away.

Similar stories can be found all over the world with JW and other groups of people.

If you’ve ever known of a person killed in war, you can rest assured it wasn’t by a JW.

An interesting fact about the Jehovah’s Witnesses is that they were the only ones allowed to leave a camp at any point. The only catch being that they would have to swear off their believes. Despite this, many never got out.

I don't agree with their philosophy. But I have the utmost respect for all those people that died for what they believed was right.
