I personally think only the wedding party should be required to wear black tie, it sets them apart from everyone else. Plus most people own some kind of suit, but not a lot of people own a full tux so it's easier on your guests and will ensure more people are actually able to come

You should discuss the difference between Black Tie and White Tie and why it really matters when the invite says it’s a white tie affair. The result of not knowing different is absolutely comical but also unfortunate for the person who made the mistake.
