Decoding a Master Lock 4688D TSA combination padlock

You can look between the combination wheels and the lock body, if you see a notch you know that it’s the right number.
I used the flashlight just to try to make it slightly better visible on camera, you don’t really need it for decoding.

This worked for me. With my bad eyesight I used the probe technique. A thin piece of metal to feel for the notch at the top of each wheel. I was able to open both locks in less than 20 minutes. This saved the locks I have. Thanks for posting this.

I found such a lock today at the airport on the floor with the TSA side being open. I took it home, used this method to get the code and once I set a new code, I was able to put in the cable into the TSA side and get that side locked as well. Now I have a usable lock.

Can someone please describe what the grove looks like? There's a small circle like etching above 3 of the numbers on each of the 3 wheels - so that's probably not it but I'm not seeing another obvious grove. thanks in advance for your help!

Fantastic! Thank you for posting.! The trick for me was to rotate the numbers from the back.. that changed the angle so I could finally see the notch from the front! Of course now my lock feels less safe...but it is supposed to be more for deterrence anyway!

Like so many other comments, I screwed up setting the combanation right after removing from the package because of my stupid fat fingers - Just about ready to chuck it in the ocean, then I pulled up your video ... 👍

Wow! once I read the description and knew what I was looking for I was able to recover my lock! I messed up in the setting up process and thus the lock did not set to the code I believe it was set on and was locked out of my own luggage. Great video, Thanks

Thanks. Although on mines I saw two notches between the numbers. The number between the two notches was it.
Also I used my samsung phones magnifier with the light turned on. Made it a breeze to see in that little space.

Thanks man I watched this guy say apply tension and move them and it won't move if the other moves its not that and this buncha finger pain bs. So watched this at 1st sarcastically sayin, "cool thanks for just doing it guy!" NOT thinking of comments because my damn fingers hurt. Bout to start pulling landscaping duty then realized to check comments. Tried it exactly as you said but it's just notches instead. Weird but I can't seem to find a 4688T only 4688D but either way your dope! Got two for my wife at Walmart on clearance and a jack ass fucked with one. I have a cooler one but don't wanna allow the kids to borrow it and now I don't because like soft butter just worked into the bread. Thanks again. Thats super cool.
