Track Feels Empty? Try THIS To Fill Out The Mix!

If your music productions feel empty, use a synth pad or drone to fill out frequencies. Keep it quiet and subtle, and use sidechaining/reverb for more interest.

If you can't find a fitting pad try this:
1. Put a dense reverb on the master channel, 100% wet.
2. Hit the reverb's freeze button.
3. Resample the reverb.
Using the result like shown in the video, you get a pad that resembles what is going on in the track, so it will always fit the track's overall mood.

one trick i always use to fill out the track is adding extra percussion parts into the drums.. just some sample loops congas, tambourines etc and it really makes everything feel fuller, even if i make them quite quiet

I liked the first one too, it reminds me of some stuff off Diverse System's "Works" albums. They're intentionally pretty mellow and minimalistic but still have some flavor within the genre restraints of the project.

This is a cool technique though, sidechaining is one of those things that is simple in concept but needlessly complicated in a lot of DAWs so it's worth spending time to learn about!

I generally like to fill out frequencies by putting a 100% flange on the master panned hard right. If it’s still too subtle I find a bit crusher to help fill out the remaining frequencies for the nice crispy texture.
