Yeah, CD Projekt Red shouldn't cave to unreasonable demands that come after an agreement between both parties was established. It's nice to hear an amicable resolution might be on the table though.

I'm Polish and I've read the Witcher series not to long ago in its native language.
He is an unbelievably amazing writer. He is very good at balancing multiple storylines with perfect pacing.
Too bad he's an out of touch asshole, and he doesn't deserve a single dollar from CDPR.
CD Projekt Red is a huge source of pride for us, they took out a huge loan from the Polish government a few years back because they refuse to release a bad game, or one with micro transactions.

I remember When He said that "He only hangs with intelligent people.. not gamers" and was bombing Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 Projects all the time saying that Games are weak media and He dont belive in this kind of showing the story to The People. I'm from polland and was interesting about all this "case".He's a nasty and greedy person.

Many Polish Witcher fans knows this: you read Sapkowski's books, but you do not listen to him.
Now you see why.

I wouldn't have read the witcher books if I hadn't heard of the games

He sold the product and now he want to change the price. Not quite how that works.

Good... the guy had his chance but chose a quick buck instead of having faith and confidence in the games. He's just a grumpy old guy who's salty he didn't get enough money

Why would they even pay him? They're completely in the right. They paid him what he asked and acquired the license legally.
If anything CDPR should sue him.

>be me

If anyone reads the comment, never turn down royalties. Even if the product doesn't do well, regardless of what it is, receiving whatever amount of money for the the rest of your life is way better than a lump sum that could be more in the immediate.

I can understand being bitter when an adaptation of your own work becomes massively successful and you are getting zero royalties from it. But YOU are the one who turned down the offer.

The fact is, Sapkowski probably made more than his fair share by proxy of the fame that the games brought to his novels. Throwing a tantrum about the fact you made the wrong bet despite profiting off of the deal anyway is both greedy and childish.

This guy should have the character of Geralt as a role model. Instead he is Dijkstra.

The fact that he wasn't interested in royalties and went for the cash instead shows he had no hope on the games and expected them to be a failure. So after they became huge now he wants to reap the rewards of CD Projekt Red's work? That's not how that works man.

The author is acting like a petulant, grumbling senile father who just can't accept that his child became more successful than he ever was. Instead of just being proud of him and followed his child's road to success, he chose to become an old fool who thinks the world owes him a favor. What a sad sad story.

He sold the rights for a lump sum instead of royalties because he didn't believe in the game would succeed . He doesn't deserve a Goddamned cent

Why are book authors so weird? First J.K. Rowling and now this.

I'm no lawyer, but in Poland the copyright law seems extremely fishy... I think it's stated that if the author's payment turns out to be very low compared to buyer's profits, it is in author's right to demand additional payment, no matter if it was a gamble or not.

Sapkowski definitely lost a lot of my respect with that case tho

He turned down the royalties, then he tried to quietly blackmail them with bad PR threats. He got the payment he agreed to. I wouldn't give him a dime.
