Imagine suddenly standing in front of that huge crowd - and cameras you know are beaming you and your words to millions more people, including scads of haters - as a young woman. I’d have been quaking inside at her age (or any age, frankly), but Ella handled herself so well. Yes, she was speaking alongside two other members of Kamala’s family, but no doubt she knew her voice, looks, and fashion choice would be scrutinized far more than the niece and goddaughter. Despite the scrutiny and the horrid slams she definitely knew would come for her, she was real and well-spoken. I tip my hat!

Seriously, I actually believe that it speaks VOLUMES of a person's noble spirit, when they accept being part of a blended family. Loving kids that aren't biologically yours with the same strenght (and sometimes even more, I say it for those who abandon children) than that of biological parents takes a lot of courage, personal investment and sacrifice.
I don't know how Vance thought that was a smart statement.
