The ex-wife of second gentleman Doug Emhoff defended Vice President Kamala Harris against sexist criticisms about her lack of biological children, calling them “baseless” and expressing her gratitude for the presumptive Democratic nominee.

So if you have foster kids, step kids, or women who are unable to have children, you are basically saying they are not real parents. How disgusting is that.

I'm an adoptive parent, and the suggestion that I am a less of a parent to my children is offensive.

How DARE they say that a step-parent does not count as a parent!! My mother and biological father divorced when I was very young, and he lived far away and died a few years later. However, I was raised by my stepfather with the same love and care that any biological parent would show. He was present for me in all the important ways. He helped me with my homework in math, taught me about how to garden in our yard and praised me for my tomatoes, rushed me frantically to the doctor once when I bloodied myself as a kid while playing outside with my friends, taught me how to drive a car as a teenager, sternly warned my prom date to deliver me back home on time, and then in later years, he accompanied me down the aisle when I got married. In all the important ways, he was present and our love and devotion as parent and child was steadfast even up until his death years later. I still think of him with fond memories. We may not have shared blood, but in all the important ways, he was MY FATHER!!

what does being a mom have to do with being a president? the kids never came up at ALL in the men's running, not once. MOST of them HAPPENED to have kids, but never has that ever come up in their candidacy. all of this is absolutely ridiculous. worst grab at straws ever.

I am just stunned breathless by these comments. My husband and I were devastated 40 years ago by unexplained infertility. We tried every avenue but failed. How dare this man suggest that we do not have a stake in or care for the future of this country! My husband served a full career in the USAF, reserves, DOD, and will be retiring next year with over 40 years service to this country. I served 20 years and have supported him through deployments, held the Homefront, and comforted young military wives with children in the dark hours. How dare he say we without children should not have a say in the future of this country. To suggest that lack of children means we do not care about the future of this country is more than offensive. To the contrary, we fear for the future of a country that values and celebrates a man like this running for the second highest position in the country. Time to go get some blood pressure treatment!

My wife grieves the loss of my mother, but not her own. My mother greeted my wife with open arms and loved her, my wife never knew love or comfort from her biological mother, being a parent is more than biology.
