Thank you for this video Dr. Dryden, my therapist actually assigned watching it as a task for me and I'm saving it in my watchlist to come back to again when I need a reminder of what we are aiming for, it's very helpful!

The good Dr. Dryden has done it again! In this lovely whiteboard animation he clearly and concisely discusses REBT’s distinctive ABC model of emotional disturbance and health. Anyone who wants to deeply understand the tradition of CBT would be well advised to understand the distinctive features of REBT’s ABC model. This video will make it clear that REBT is a distinct form of CBT that targets deeper level cognitions, known as “Attitudes, ” as a first line strategy. Typically CBT practitioners attempt to challenge a patient’s inference of what is going on in reality but REBT, as Dr. Dryden shows, targets the philosophical attitudes of the patient and thereby equips the patient to face an adversity that truly exists, a reality that sadly might be grim, and how to react to this adversity in a healthy way. Adversity often exists and REBT is the CBT that helps you stand strong in the face of adversity. Watch this video and open your mind to the power of holding healthy attitudes as REBT prescribes. Well done and a useful resource for people wanting to learn REBT. It sticks with the original and traditional understanding of REBT working against inflexibility and for flexibility much like yoga. It misses the later development of REBT into a more profound philosophical approach centered on acceptance versus non-acceptance. If REBT never advanced to its present state, it would still be a great form of therapy as it originally existed. Hence, this is a highly valuable starting point that hopefully, many will take advantage of. Clear and concise with much content that will likely be missed from a single viewing. “To help people achieve the three basic REBT philosophies of unconditional self-acceptance, unconditional other-acceptance, and unconditional life-acceptance, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral methods, which are described in this monograph, are used.” ―Albert Ellis, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy by Albert Ellis and Debbie Joffe Ellis, 2011

This is great. I am a facilitator with SMART recovery and while we use slightly different terminology (activating event, belief for A&B) this nicely covers the basis of many of the tools we use.
