We are Josh and Alicia Dougherty and we live outside Rochester, NY. We met in college where we both got our teaching degrees, and married soon after graduation in 2003.
During our 9 years of Infertility and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss we decided to embark on the Path of Foster Care Adoption.
We adopted Alex in 2011 when he was 5-years-old.
Six days later we found out we were pregnant with Zoey!
When Zoey had just turned 1 we were asked if we could adopt James from Foster Care. He was 6-years-old.
Two weeks after James moved in we found out were pregnant with Dash!
The next year we were asked to take foster care placement of Jason and Jordan “for 5 days”. Well, 5 days turned into Forever and we eventually adopted the twins.
We gave birth to Bodhi Blaze in 2016, and Harlee Quinton in 2018.
The next year we heard about a sibling group in a Residential Treatment Facility that were being split apart for adoptions. We advocated to keep them together and be their adoptive family in order for that to happen. We adopted Bree and Patrick in 2019. They were 8 and 11 years old at the time.
And then in the Spring of 2022 we were asked to take Kinship Placement of Dayshawn, and in 2023 we were granted Permanent Custody by the courts.
And That’s How We Became The Dougherty Dozen!
