We are Josh and Alicia Dougherty and we live outside Rochester, NY. We met in college where we both got our teaching degrees, and married soon after graduation in 2003.

After 9 years of Infertility and Recurrent Pregnancy Loss we decided to embark on the Path of Foster Care Adoption.

We adopted Alex in 2011 when he was 5-years-old.

Six days later we found out we were pregnant with Zoey!

When Zoey had just turned 1 we were asked if we could adopt James from Foster Care. He was 6-years-old.

Two weeks after James moved in we found out were pregnant with Dash!

The next year we were asked to take foster care placement of Jason and Jordan “for 5 days”. Well, 5 days turned into “Forever” and we eventually adopted the twins.

We gave birth to Bodhi Blaze in 2016, and Harlee Quinton in 2018.

The next year we heard about a sibling group in a Residential Treatment Facility that were being split apart for adoptions. We advocated to keep them together and be an adoptive family in order for that to happen.

And Recently were asked to take Kinship Placement of Dayshawn and Nevaeh.

And That’s How We Became The Dougherty Dozen!

I love you for keeping the biological siblings together, I remember going into foster care and me and my sister were taken apart, it was very traumatic for me. ounce my mom and dad learned my sister had me (a brother) they immediately took me in, I’m now 36 and my sister is 38.

i was telling my mother in law about your family and she was simply
amazed! she said it takes special people to do what you do and she thanks your for it, you see her mother was adopted and then her mother decided to adopt a beautiful tiny baby with Turners syndrome! So fostering/adoption means a lot!

What I think makes this special is that you can tell that they aren’t just “housing kids for money” - instead the kids look genuinely happy and you can feel the love that the parents are giving them all. It’s rlly sweet and honestly heartmelting ❤️

Wow! Often parents have no more problems with fertility when they have adopted a child. Without pressure it‘s much easier to become pregnant.

I absolutely love the short and sweet way the story of how they came to be a family. 9 years of trying for a biological kid and as soon as they happily start welcoming other children into their home, nature suddenly takes its course and out pop the babies! 😄🥰 Beautiful!

At 0:26 I started crying 😭! What a blessing to conceive after trying for so long, and right after you opened up your hearts and home to another child.
