I’m a Christian - non denominational. The Cathars may have been eliminated by the Catholic Church because they were in fact speaking some truths.
I believe the God of the Old Testament is the devil whom the Catholics worship. The true father God was revealed through Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus said his father is constant, never changing and his description of who he is contradicted the “god” of the Old Testament very much.

I will argue that despite trying to make monotheistic views the only thing they couldn't get rid of these thoughts of Satan because I know plenty of modern Christians that get wrapped up in fear of Satan and tend to give more thought to that than God.
