Fun Fact: The term "Deutsch" actually comes from a derogatory term used by the romans to describe the people of germania, especially those living to the east of the rhine river. They called them "Teutsche", because they feared them like they feared the old teutonic people especially after the germanic tribes managed to sack and plunder rome and then again after Otto I conquered rome and integrated it as well as large parts of todays italy into his empire. Over time the german people came to refer to themselve by that term.

"Germany" in english is of course derived from the old roman name of that province "germania".

The french term "Allemagne" is derived from the old collective term for the many germanic tribes "Allemanen" which literally just translates to "all people".

The japanese "Doitsu" and the korean "Dogil" are literally just "Deutsch" but transposed into the local writing system and then retransposed into latin letters.
