Cave Troll: All Abilities and Attacks Guide | Dark and Darker

This Boss guide showcases and explains all of the Cave Troll's abilities, attacks, and how to fight the boss found in the Goblin Caves. All moves will be displayed in an isolated render and include the preferred method of dodging them which can be done by any class in base gear.

Nobody will see this, but after getting hit by the roar, you can tell the difference by the position of the hammer. The hammer for low swing drags on the floor, the high swing doesnt touch the floor ;) just for you gamers who see this

You missed the most important part: The troll isnt the boss, its the 7 people that come in with full gold when u have upper middle class gear on and team on you bc learning the fight is too hard for them

The two handed overhead slam is every 4 attacks so you can keep track of it and get a head start moving away

You missed the most important part: if the troll attempts his charge attack when you are on the edge of his melee range, he will attack immediately instead of first running up to you, which means that if you simply walk away his attack will swing out of range and you won't have to guess how to dodge it at all. It's the easiest way to deal with roars and only takes learning the correct range to stand at.

Most comprehensive guide I've seen so far! The showcase of animations and also the cinematics at the beginning are top notch, very good production quality, keep it up.

I'd have a few things to add as a seasoned troll slayer. If you are just learning how to do it, you will die a lot because most attack are one shot. Just go in default gear and figure out how to get there fast by avoiding mobs. Once you get your first kill, you can start thinking of bringing better weapons/heals.

During the charged swing you can continue attacking the troll. As a rogue, you can get up to 8 hits during that attack depending on the weapon you use. You only get that attack if you circle right. Some veterans prefer going for circle left, it used to be safer because fist slam is on the right. However, now that stutters are fixed it should be fine either way.

Any class can do this for sure, but the best as far as I've seen are warlock and bard. Warlock using hellfire can probably kill the fastest. Bard is great because of shriek of weakness.

Me and my friends have a running joke where we call the combo attack chain with 5 attacks "coming home from work". When he slams the ground with his hand he is clocking in.

I found a slight difference in the sprinting attack. When he does low he drags his club behind him on the ground, high is off the ground.

2 important information about the running attack

-its not just the roar, its the slow effect that trigger and you can get this slow from getting hit by any attack(except the basic slam aoe attacks) so if you get hit once but survives, expect the running attack next

-if the troll is about to trigger the two hand ground slam and you leave melee distance before he grabs the club with two hands there's a high chance that he will just do a running attack and finish you before you even understand what happened

this came at a great time ngl. i was having trouble after the patch bcuz i’d just tank the roar and move in slightly to bait an early running swing, but i’m pretty sure that doesn’t work anymore. nice video

very good videos. simple and easy to follow up. the only thing that im not good at is to differentiate between low n high swing after roar. As for the new players who want to kill Cave Troll please do not give up. At first i was dying like every game practicing my reaction time and movement, it took up to 20 deaths when i finally killed my first Troll, the satisfaction is immeasurable

Honestly going around the left side is easier when learning the fight the first time. The right side is only if you’re learning the speedrun strat because you can duck the second swing on his side sweep attacks

no because ive probably died 30 times today to abosolute bullshit, i crouch infront of charged attack 1 and i get hit 50% of the time its a hit or a miss im doing it perfectly in chest aswell some BS
