The government in Kiev is not legitimate. They acquired power illegally and through violent means. The government in Crimea is legitimate. In the absence of a legitimate government in Ukraine the AUTONOMOUS Republic of Crimea has every right to form their own government. This ambassador is more of an advocate for the corporations who own and operate the USA. He's the one peddling a big lie!

USA was supporting Chechen separatists, but now not supporting Crimea's separatists. Double standards in action.

*Russia's Ambassador to America:* We know the truth behind the fascist coup d'etat and your continued involvement in the politics of other countries under the guise of "democracy"

I'm sure that people wanting to vote against Russian annexation feel completely safe voting for Ukrainian sovereignty with Russian troops hanging out in their neighborhood.

But the US and France were going to recognize Quebec referendum in 1995 which Canadian government and the Supreme Court said it's unconstitutional, and it cannot be argued that any of those two institution lacked legitimacy.  So where is the consistency, you'd think there would be one international law for all.

Crimea is not part of Ukraine now, never was and never will be. As per so called "observers" they did not bother to not to ask, but just send consultants to Crimean authorities to make it less painfull for Kiev and more respectfull for Crimeans. Instead they like a "bully" showd up ad the gates. So they had their ass kicked and intimidated. I would say it was a West provocation in media war.
