Great video—you covered most things, including city construction. Greater Manchester, though, is the metro area, with a population of 3 million. All the best. Mark

Great video. I lived in Manchester for many years and the changes have been astonishing. As others have pointed out, 550k is only the population of the bit that’s The City of Manchester - which is equivalent to a borough. Indeed quite a lot of your footage was actually taken outside ‘the city’ in Trafford and Salford which share sections of the urban centre. The true population is closer to 3 million. Tellingly the population stats for London always cite the ‘Greater London’ figure, but this same principle is almost never applied to the big regional cities - as though to minimise their status when compared to the capital.

Manchester is a fantastic city. I spent a weekend there last summer. The weather was fine and the people were great too. I'm sorry some people have had a negative experience there, because it was all positive for me.

I worked in that area for about 16 years. You missed the Docks by years it was a sea feed canal the Manchester Ship Canal and the start of the Bridgewater Canal in Worsley in a Coal and lion Stone mine with Orange coloured water

I'm from Manchester and... fair enough. You got it about right. You either don't know, though, or didn't mention such gems as John Ryland's Library, Manchester Town Hall, World's first passenger railway (at Manchester Science and Industry Museum) or the beauty of Manchester Cathedral. Not to mention the Town Hall. Stunning building (I worked there for 2 years).

Some of the old brick mill buildings were called fireproof because of the iron supports and when trying to demolish them by burning the oil impregnated flooring it burnt but the structure was still safe

You briefly visited and make a wildly inaccurate video. Manchester is a great city. I live here. The climate is mild and it is not always rainy. It is no more aggressive than any city with a population of 2.7 million.

Great video - good to have an insider's perspective - I would of said the suburbs are more suitable for families and the inner city is more suitable for young professionals.

We have good memories of the university tour, the older parts of town, the neighborhoods..., but the airport... OMG! Crowded, understaffed, security way too strict, and to make matters worse: not so many flights to Porto. We missed our flight and that was a terrible end to our journey to Manchester. It probably would have been better if we watched a match live.

I’m always curious to hear the puritanical attitude which Americans often display towards alcohol consumption. It’s also curious to hear an American describing Manchester as being “rough”!
Having visited major cities in California and North Carolina, all of which have areas which are almost post-apocalyptic in comparison to anywhere in the UK, it is puzzling to hear Manchester described as rough by anyone.
Additionally, Manchester is incredible in spite of its weather - not because of it!

You only quote the population of the City area. Greater Manchester has about 2.9 million now...There are 10 local authorities in the conurbation and the whole area has a Metro Mayor..Andy Burnham who leads The Greater Manchester Combined. Authority.

I am a proud Mancunian and lived in the area for 70 years, Your views are totally inaccurate. It is the greatest city in the world. Better if you don.t return and leave it to the Brits.
