The coronavirus call to James O'Brien that puts lots of our problems into perspective | LBC

This heartbreaking call to James O'Brien touched the LBC listeners and really put our current worries in perspective.

Yesterday, the government urged people with underlying health issues to self-isolate to protect themselves from the spread of coronavirus.

But that advice may have come too late for Simon.

He called James O'Brien to say: "I've got two daughters - 8 and 2. The two-year-old has just finished 27 weeks of chemotherapy after kidney cancer.

"I've been watching the news and trying to work out when I should or shouldn't take her sister home from school because I don't want her sister to bring anything home.

"I made the decision to pull her out of school last Thursday. I explained the situation to the school and they were quite supportive.

"On Friday, she developed a fever and a cough, so effectively we self-isolated her in her bedroom, which has not been easy with an eight-year-old, as you would imagine.

"At 2 o'clock this morning, we rushed her sister off to hospital with a high fever and cough and she's currently in hospital. They gave her a coronavirus test this morning and she has to wait until Monday to get the result.

"I told the school and they said thanks for letting us know - oh and we had two others that self-isolated last week, which they didn't share."

I don't always like this guy, but he seemed genuine here, a lot of presenters would've tried to make the caller emotional, but he actually tried to stop that by not forcing answers. Hope the kid is ok.

i wish your daughters all the very best, today my grandson was the first case in our village to be self isolated by our GP, GP said he was the first case he has had to treat this way, he came out his office wearing one step from a hazmat suit, there are no tests available in my part of Scotland, it's a disgrace how our government are putting money, before it's natives ! i got my children to take my 5 grandkids out of school last week, as we are being told nothing or worse we are being lied to up here !

Boy o boy am I relieved we didnt stop those flights out of China six weeks ago. Restricting non essential flights and canceling vacations would have been too big of a sacrifice to expect people to make. Now we traded for this. At least corporate airlines got a few weeks more profit in so every cloud and all that.

This situation is sadly highlighting just how many people in this country have total lack of common sense, the second that school was told that a child had symptoms the school should have shutdown, why are people waiting for the government to give them permission, boris has repeatedly stood up in parliament and said noone should be punished for doing the right thing, wheres peoples instincts?
