Whirlwind over Cremona and the whole Cremonese area: on Monday at 6.30 pm a devastating wind with intense rain (in some moments mixed with hail) hit the city, causing dozens of trees to fall on the main roads, among other things a lot busy at rush hour return. Tilt traffic, roofs literally flown into the street and roofs blown away by the wind and ended up on stationary but also in transit cars, as documented by a video shot in via Bergamo. At least two cars were hit by branches that crashed to the ground in via Ippocastani and via Fulcheria. On the road to Castelvetro, towards the bridge that connects Lombardy and Emilia, some trees have fallen and make it impossible to pass along the roadway.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the damage to homes and roads is considerable. The firefighters immediately went into action in the city, carrying out various interventions throughout the city. In the area of the center conspicuous damage, with the outdoor furniture of the premises swept away. Heavy damage to agricultural crops is also easy to predict. During the night, the firefighters guaranteed over one hundred interventions between the capital and the province. In addition to the dozens of fallen plants, many of them large and some collapsed on parked cars, the first inspections on Tuesday morning tell of uncovered roofs and damaged buildings.
The wave of bad weather has not yet completely subsided: the yellow alert issued by the Civil Protection for thunderstorms continues even today, especially in the eastern area of Lombardy.
The meteorological service of the Air Force foresees for the next few hours "in the alpine and pre-alpine sectors and close to the Apennine reliefs, more consistent and local cloud and storm phenomena, with possible evening encroachments on the plain areas".
