Sooo, far ahead of their time! I never listened to PF in the late 60's but did listen to them with the first album I bought which was, "MEDDLE". I couldn't stop playing it on my quadrophonic record player and amp system! I still love 'em!!!🙂

From Nicholas Schaffner's book "A Saucerful Of Secrets" - "Blackhill [The Pink Floyd's Management] officially announced Gilmour's addition in January, 1968, alleging the Floyd's desire to explore new instruments and add further experimental dimensions to its sound."
