Political Economist, Mandla Lionel Isaacs believes that SA’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine exposes the moral and strategic incoherence of our foreign policy. He's urged citizens to take a more careful interest in international affairs and pressure the government to pursue a foreign policy that reflects our interests and values. He spoke with eNCA's Thulasizwe Simelane about an opinion piece he wrote on the subject. Courtesy of #DStv403

SA capitulation to Russian interests is not new. Remember capitulation to China on the Dalai Lama affair.

We are concerned and disappointed that SA abstained from a gruesome unprovoked attack on another country. We are in Los Angeles and thinking of retiring in SA. That decision did not give us confidence.

Leta not act as if we don't know the meaning oof the word "ABSTAIN"... which means we're NOT supporting either narrative and this is what our Gvts chose not to do because there are deeper and more complicated geopolitical issues surrounding this conflict that many people are ignorant of.. Besides USA and Europe invaded IRAQ, Afghanistan, Lybia in recent years, yet they want to be so called champions of Democracy today... We won't stand with hypocrites, especially those who oppressed us and the world at large through their imperialist agendas.

Our president doesn't want to upset our own corrupt oligarchs who have been wheeling and dealing with Putin. Zondo has the full list of "our oligarchs" and the main question now is will the president allow this war to free his cadres from going to prison for their part in corruption and state capture? God save Ukraine!! SAVA UKRAINI!!. ☮☮❤❤🙏🙏

I'm glad South Africans don't only depend on such media for news because this is disappointing...

6:54: One does not legitimately abstain from agreeing that 1+1=2. The fallacy here is that failure to condemn Putin puts SA's current leaders in the same basket as the colonialists it is critical of. SA gains no advantage from being a puppet of anyone. SA's leaders certainly do know how to read and they certainly do know right from wrong.

NATO did it in Serbia.
And they took away a part of our territory, is that according to the law?

South Africa has really turned its back on Desmond Tutu –
If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.

I really despise conflict and wish that humans didn't have to engage in such, but the reality is that the world will always have evil people who need to be stopped and innocent people freed from their tyranny. As such, I'm a staunch supporter of justice for the benefit of humanity. But this recent war has me REAL confused:

1. We have already established that Russia has Weapons of Mass Destruction. What I fail to understand is, why hasn't the US invaded Russia like they did Iraq back in 2003?

2. We have already established that human rights violations are happening in Ukraine. What I fail to understand is why NATO hasn't initiated Operation Unified Protector like they did in Libya in 2011 as per UN Security Council Resolution 1973?

The world mafi... I mean LEADERSHIP is really failing the Ukrainian people shame. 🙄🙄🙄
