War in Ukraine | Putin set to attend BRICS summit in SA

As a signatory of the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court, South Africa is duty-bound to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin. You will remember the ICC issued a warrant for his arrest for alleged war crimes in Ukraine. If Putin attends the BRICS bloc summit in August, it would be his first appearance outside Russia or occupied Ukraine since The Hague-based ICC issued a warrant for his arrest in March.
Meanwhile, earlier this week President Cyril Ramaphosa said South Africa would pull out of the ICC, before the presidency made a U-turn, citing a
communication error from the ANC. To unpack this further, let's bring in Political analyst, Professor Sipho Seepe.

We should leave the Pentagon's ICC.

My position is not colored by who does it but rather by what they are doing. An egregious abuse of power is just that. It cannot be color coded.

The interviewer asked: "what is the consequence if Putin arrives and is allowed to leave?" Have you considered the consequence of the inverse scenario? "What is the consequence if Putin arrives and is NOT allowed to leave"?

If you are a policy maker surely you will be thinking: "both of these are quite bad, but which one carries more gravity"? I'm willing to bet it's the latter considering Russia has stated that arresting it's president would be a declaration of war. Any South African politician thinking declaring war on Russia is wise and beneficial for the country is delusional!

1) Neither the U.S. or Russia recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC. 2) U.S. President George Bush signed into law the American Service members Protection Act of 2002, which is intended to intimidate countries that ratify the treaty for the International Criminal Court (ICC). The law authorizes the use of military force to liberate any American or citizen of a U.S.-allied country being held by the court, which is located in The Hague. This provision, dubbed the "Hague invasion clause, " has caused a strong reaction from U.S. allies around the world, particularly in the Netherlands. What is good for the Goose is Good for the Gander. Why is SA still in the ICC?

My recollection says that is about the4th time that the president has uttered a reckless statement, and every time he survives the media attack. It seems that this president is favored by the media. No 1. Bosasa, no 2. Durings unrests 2 or years back, no 3. Phalafala and lastly this one.
