Thank you for the help. Didn't know what I was going to do when I lost that connector clip. Added a piece of plastic and tape and it works like a champ!

I lost the clamp on a ribbon cable for a keyboard. I tried the tape down method but it didn't work. After watching this video I noticed I had an older hospital wrist band. I cut a piece the size of the connector and slid it in. It worked perfect. Thanks for the idea.

I watched this and thought "there is no way that will work." Then I tried it, and it worked! I cut a piece off an old credit card to use.

This gave me a good idea. Instead of folding paper, I took some mylar about the thickness of card stock. I cut a piece about an inch long and the same width as the ribbon cable. Wedged that in place and then coated with RTV.

I was skeptical when I saw the painters tape. but that paper trick, holy shit does it work. I tried toothpicks, super glue, AND tape, but this is what worked. Typing this from my repaired laptop, it's been out of commission for two whole months now and I was on the verge of ATTEMPTING to buy a port clip, or even a whole new motherboard if it was warranted. They are not easy to find and I would recommend integrating a piece of plastic or something instead of paper, since it's flammable and all.

This is a great tip. Very clever and saved me scrapping my motherboard or having to replace it as these clips are not sold

Was looking for ideas and found this video - did something similar but with 3 Stacked Guitar Picks.

Thanks for the idea and hey it's 2022 when I'm commenting!

I appreciate this work because it shows people that may not quite have the confidence worked up that, yes, you can fix those small delicate parts.. . However (as the author explains) this is only a short - term solution. BUT, I cannot recommend masking tape for this job. Consider a vinyl film tape instead (the kind that can't be stretched or torn easily), due to heat inside the laptop, the adhesive on the masking tape will likely melt, spread, and create a gooey mess over time. Hot glue is better, but be sure you have everything making good connection before you glue, as this presents additional problematic possibilities if you accidentally encase and insulate a tiny bit of the connector that isn't making contact.

Huge thanks mate! I was skeptical while watching it, didn't think it'd work, but it did work!

I’ve done something like that, except I was fixing a PS3 controller.

I found that one of the pieces of the track that holds the vibration motor in place had broken off and the motor was rattling inside, so I used this type of trick.

A piece of folded paper or cereal box with some tape definitely does the trick!

Great, great idea! My internal mouse on my M5030 laptop is missing the clip that holds the internal mouse ribbon cable to the motherboard. I have been forced to use an external mouse since it broke. I'll definitely try this out very soon. At least my laptop isn't totally scrapped because of the malfunction. I have been looking for a fix just like this!

This video helped me out with a keyboard connector and now i want to see if the heat does not lift the tape so 🤞🤞

It worked and what i also did was put some double sided tape on the cable to make sure it does not move so its secure on top as well on the bottom.
