I adopted a cat who'd been in a shelter for 10 years, practically his whole life. He had been found in the parking lot behind the rescue underneath the car when he was still a kitten. This rescue was not Top Notch but it was the only one available in the community. By the time I adopted him he had several health issues that they were unaware of. When I let them know about them they put a major overhaul into place regarding how they handle things. Unfortunately he only lived for about a year and a half after I got him he had arthritis it turned out he had nerve damage to his face which is why his I always look like it was open. But he had never had a window and the first day I had him I had put a ladder in front of a window and he spent the first 4 hours or so just looking out the window. There was also a bird feeder just outside the pain so he got to watch birds and squirrels and even in a possum on one occasion. When I realized he wouldn't be able to run away in any way shape or form I let my cat who is used to the area go out and he knew what area he was allowed in and this cat just followed him out and did whatever he did. So he got to get on grass for the first time and he didn't quite know what to do about it. But he eventually died of a cancer still he got to experience being a real cat for about a year and a half

6 years in a kennel, and he is still loving and hopeful. He's such a wonderful pup. The slowmo of him playing are beautiful and shows his bright side. His eyes speak volumes. I really hope that with this exposure will land him a forever family.

I laughed so hard when Floyd tore that toy within seconds. What a funny boy! I pray he finds a home!

What a beautiful dog. I hope he finds his forever home soon. I appreciate the comment about Christmas not being the ideal time to introduce a pet into a home. There’s so much excitement, happy chaos going on and strangers coming in. A new pet should be given an opportunity to decompress and adjust to their new home and family.

My wish for Christmas and 2025 is for the sweet Floyd to get the loving home he deserves. Thank you for this series, and thank you to all the volunteers and staff at RSPCA Millbrook for going above and beyond in the care of their animals.

I wish they would have pointed out that the sighthound dogs (greyhounds, whippets, etc.) seem to spend most of their time sleeping; show them a couch and you usually have to pry them away to go out. It's not like having a herding breed, a gun dog, or terrier. At age 70 with many years in rescue, I've had many different breeds, and the quietest, laziest bunch were the ex-racing greyhounds, secondly whippets. I know in the US, many landlords have size limits, but I've long thought that these dogs are so much more appropriate for apartment dwellers and working people than many smaller dogs.

My last rescue dog was a big Lurcher. When I adopted him, my elderly neighbours took to turning off their TV and watching him from an upstairs window instead. He wore a track in the lawn running circuits with great joy and a squeaky toy in his mouth, so they renamed him 'That Idiot'. 😄

I'm gutted I can no longer have a big dog like Floyd. He's going to make someone very happy very soon, I think.

It is heartbreaking that he has been in the shelter for 6 years. Poor beautiful boy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The lurchers are great dogs for folks that enjoy bike or ski joring. It gets them out running with their humans. Hopefully someone sees this and decides to adopt this beautiful boy.

Ah, the famous Floyd. I first heard about him when he featured on the Millbrook Facebook page for a whole week. He is a beautiful dog and I really hope he finds somewhere to call home very soon.

If I didn’t live in a small apartment I’d take him ASAP.
The least you can do for the new year is get him a job in the office as a Paper Shredder

Jesse is my second rescue dog. My first, Mini Dog. was a dream. You know the list of don't wants. Jesse. black, a poodle, toy at that. I almost forgot the barking. He' bark at leaves dalling of a tree. He was all that. I asked what do I do if we don't get on. She smiled and said bring himm back.i felt like it too . if I went near him while eating he would snap at me. My daughter said give him three months. four years on I, and everyone who meets him, loves him. Get a rescue, give him a chance. If he wants to hide under the bed, let him, because in time he'll be sleeping On it.❤

Floyd is such a handsome boy with a beautiful spirit. Makes me so sad to see him in the shelter, as wonderful as the staff are.. . This will be my first Xmas in 13 years I don't have my heart connection boy with me. Tbh, although it's too soon emotionally for me to adopt again (I will) Floyd is the type of dog who would make me reconsider the time line. Unfortunately I live in Australia but I'm so hoping Floyd finds his forever home soon. There are just too many Floyds - I wish all people would be responsible and neuter their dogs and cats.

Friend have two rescue lurchers. They zoom round the park for half an hour, then are couch potatoes rest of the day.
