My ENTIRE ERAS Application for Residency (w/ Experiences!)

Hi there! I'm Prerak - a first year internal medicine resident at Stanford! Last year (2021), I applied to residency and was lucky enough to match at my top choice at Stanford. :) I felt like I wanted to make this video to help anyone currently going through the process. I hope that you find it helpful; I feel like seeing something like this last year would have been really helpful for me.

What is ERAS?
The ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) is a standardized application system used by the majority of medical schools to streamline the application process, making it easier to medical school students to apply to multiple different medical residency programs.

Who should I contact if I need advice on how to fill out my application?
The ERAS Client Technical Support is available to provide technical support with the MyERAS application but cannot advise you on how to fill out your application. You should contact your Designated Dean’s Office if you need advice on how to fill out your application.

When can I certify and submit my application?
MD applicants and DO applicants can begin certifying and submitting their application on Wednesday, September 7 at 9 a.m. ET.

Once you have certified and submitted your application, it will be irrevocably locked, and no changes will be permitted. Your application, once certified and submitted, is provided to all programs to which you apply during this ERAS season. Please take the additional time to proofread your application for any errors or omissions.

Are there any parts of the application that can be changed or updated after I certify and submit my application?
Once you have certified and submitted your MyERAS application, you will not be able to make any changes or updates outside of the information provided under the Personal Information section. There are no exceptions.

I was wondering if you got specific advice about writing descriptions as bullet points versus paragraph form as you've done. Also, did you put major college achievements anywhere?

Great video, Prerak! To second something that was said previously, can you talk about how you were able to find researchers that were in the later stages of their research to maximize these pubs? Could be wrong but I'm assuming you weren't involved in the data collection of most of these papers because that would take longer and moreso helped out on the actual writing of the paper.

Hi Dr. Prerak, I have a year out before ERAS, what would you suggest to do in the meantime, I dont have an extensive history like yours (I have worked before but mostly retail is that something to mention?) not sure how to proceed as an M3 any help?

When AMCAS data says that ENT for example has an average of like 30 research experiences, they don’t mean 30 genuine peer reviewed publications correct? Just everything added together?
