Ubisoft has had several power struggles over the years and 2024 is no different. After soft sales of Star Wars Outlaws, and investors expressing that they are frustrated with the CEO's shortcomings it's clear Ubisoft is in trouble. This time it looks like a deal with Tencent could be the way out as they search for investors. And it proves that more is relying on an Assassin's Creed success than you might think. Here's how Assassin's Creed Shadows could be Ubisoft's downfall.

We wanted a splinter cell game for years and got nothing...

Avatar was a flop too. That's how much of a flop it was. Nobody even remembers that game

Yasuke is their least problem. The problem is complete disrespect for Japanese history and culture, mixing Japan with China, improper architecture, improper religious symbolism, using assets they don't have permission to use, completely wrong flora and fauna for Japan, wrong period clothing, wrong period armor, weapons, mannerisms, architecture, etc. Basically the Sengoku Japan they are portraying is not the Sengoku Japan that existed. And it's not about being super historical correct, but completely culturally wrong. And remember Ubisoft themselves claimed, this is the most accurate Assassin's Creed game to date, including Yasuke as a Samurai, which they quickly apologized for those claims - but what is done is done.

I'd argue that Assassin's Creed is the only franchise keeping Ubisoft around these days.

They obviously delayed out of desperation from extremely low preorders, what exactly has changed in the game or with Ubisoft that will make anyone else buy it?? its a guaranteed massive flop..

Black Flag might've been the first open world RPG that I 100%. Hunting animals and the great white whale. Using the diving bell. Even the mini game in the captains quarters of sending out ships from your "fleet" to trade for resources was awesome. I've enjoyed the recent assassin's creeds but Black Flag was a high point.

Ubisoft brands: Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Division, Splinter Cell, Watch Dogs, Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, Anno series, Might and Magic, Rabbids, Rayman licences for Avatar, Star Wars etc
Ubisoft plan: Assassin's Creed.

I think this says enough about Guillemots and their management.

Problem is Shadows I would have loved to play as a Japanese samurai and get an authentic experience....but the whole outsider coming in is getting old as it's not the same

Who do you play as in a middle-eastern set AC game? A middle-eastern. Ancient Greece? A Greek. Colonial America? Native. Norse? Nordic. JAPAN?? African. THATS why people are upset. It’s not racism, it’s changing the formula to inject the literal SINGULAR black person you could find from that time period (who is incredibly insignificant in any real way) and forcing fans to throw aside their hopes of playing a Japanese guy in a Japan based AC game.

Everyone wants to just tell people they’re bigots, refuse to listen, and wonder why they fail. Astonishing.

The possibility of losing the in production The Division 3 is what would bother me. No other games like The Division games.

Remember the Shogun series, Last Samurai movie…I wonder why no one has problem with the white outsiders in them? Wonder what is the problem with Yasuke and not Tom Cruise

Man, Ubisoft got bodied in that ad read.

A lot of flops, and a bare pipeline is sending Ubisoft straight to the bottom. Consumers are tired of average and virtue signaling. Just give us a good game.

If Guillemot really get kicked off, could this be the time we finally see "Executives taking consequences"? That feels like a critic point for many of the layoffs recently to me, I remember hearing that from many journalists.
But even that happens, there still will be developer layoffs, I'm curious to see how everyone will see it this time.

I’m proud to say I worked for Ubisoft from 2001 to 2013 gone by 2014 developing levels for the early far cry games. I’ve done my bit 👍

Any word on them updating mirage or Valhalla for the pro? Because I would really love that 💪

Rayman 2 for the Nintendo 64 is my second favorite game of all time. Where's my Rayman 4?

Isn't Ubisoft supposed to be opening a theme park some where in France next year? How would that play into all of this if the project is still going on?
